Sat Nav Woes

Posted on

If anyone can explain to me why my Satnav refuses to stick to the windscreen when I attach it I’d love to know – I’m sure there’s a reason involving the physics of glass, suction and plastic. I reverse two feet up the driveway – it falls off, reattach, reverse another two feet – it falls off again, this happens at least four times. Eventually it sticks. I get to the other end of my journey and attempt to take the satnav off the windscreen and suddenly it’s like it’s been attached with superglue and I have visions of the windscreen cracking as I desperately try to pry it off the glass.

Maybe the manufacturers just thought it would be amusing?

UK M/M Meet Up

Posted on

So yesterday I got up early and drove to Ely to meet up with fellow m/m authors and fans – including Erastes, Alex Beecroft, Clare London, Anne Brooke, Josephine Myles, J.L. Merrow, Becky Black, Chris Smith, Sue Brown, Aunty Marion, Stevie and Tigg – we had a great day – there was pizza, nibbles and lots and lots of talking about m/m. (Apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone, I have a terrible memory for names and admit I cheated and got these off the badges)

I have been slacking. And yesterday was the definite spur I needed up my backside.

It’s a hell of a lot easier to not write, than it is to start again after a long absence.

I feel like there should be an appropriate cliche here – every journey starts with a single step, the person who doesn’t make mistakes never makes anything – but I’m sure you get the gist.

Edited to Add – I’ve added links to the blogs of authors who attended the meet to my sidebar, those I’ve been able to find. I’m still missing a couple so if anyone knows the links to the ones I’m missing please let me know.

At the Weekend…

…I fell over. Not badly and the only thing hurt was my pride and my shoulders ache today from where I jarred them trying to break my fall.

One minute I was upright quite happily walking my dog, and the next I was flat on my face, with Dyson standing next to me and a look of puzzlement on his face which clearly said “What on earth are you doing down there?”

“I’m just taking a short break,” I said as I got back to my feet, and he quite happily trotted off, satisfied with this explanation.

I was trying to remember the last time I fell down and couldn’t. When I was a child I remember lots of bruised knees – I liked to rush everywhere – then when I was a teenager lots of grazed knees from falling over in the playground. But after my early teens I can’t remember ever falling down. Lots of trips, usually from not paying attention when I’m going up stairs.

There’s now a part of me that seems to kick in whenever I have a new experience, or repeat an old experience that I haven’t had in a long while. Some small part of my brain starts saying “I must remember what this feels like in case I ever want to include it in a story”.

It’s kind of helped me get through a few unpleasant things. And whilst falling over wasn’t as bad as having the camera put up my nose, they’re both experiences that I don’t want to repeat any time soon. :) But it’s very good to have those sensations logged in my brain.

Questions, Questions, Questions

So if anyone has any questions they’d like to ask about my writing, the Land of the Fey, what I’m working on at the moment. Feel free to post them here. For example.

Will you be writing anything anytime soon? – I sure hope so.

Or if you’ve got a burning need to know why Lily is so cranky all the time:).

Time to Get This Show Back on the Road

Okay. Family crisis whilst not over has calmed down for the moment. So I’m going to make it third time lucky for getting this blog going. :)

I’m Back

Posted on

Nope, I didn’t forget to blog. Not this time anyway.

My internet connection has been down for the past few days, which kind of sucks. But hopefully it is now all sorted and things can get back to my usual infrequent posting schedule. :)

In WIP progress I’m very nearly through the beta readers comments and the word count is up to 34,000.

This is twice as long as If Wishes Were Horses was when I submitted it. IWWH was submitted with 17,000 words and I think the final version was eventually over 20,000. So I may still reach my target of 50,000 words at some point. :)

I admit to being something of a chocoholic and I bought three tubs of Kirsch Cherries just over a week ago. This was something of an indulgence. It’s one of those chocolates that calls to you as you pass the cupboard in the kitchen where you’ve stashed them.

Only they won’t be calling any more because they’ve all gone.

On the Subject of Dogs

The television has broken.

That’s okay, it is under warrantee.

We put the papers down for a moment, and turn our backs.

Where is that phone number we need?

We look round to find you sitting there, trying to look innocent, a piece of blue paper hanging out of your mouth.

In a few hours we will laugh about this and wish we had taken photos. :)

Until then you are in the doghouse.

On Losing Things…

Posted on

I am terrible for putting things down and forgetting where I’ve left them. Spent I don’t know how long today looking for my phone charger.

On the plus side I eventually found it, plus a winter hat and a set of headphones that had also ‘disappeared’.

On the minus side that cd I got at Christmas that I haven’t listened to yet is still missing. :sigh: I’m sure it will turn up sooner or later.
