Okay, if nothing else I am going to try and manage at least one post per month this year. That’s a target that even I should be able to manage.
I am quite enjoying writing with Scrivener (Windows version). It’s taking a little bit of getting used to. I went through the tutorials and thought I understood how it worked, but I think it’s a case of you learn more by actually doing it.
My favourite tool at the moment (I feel like I’m on one of those Weightwatchers ads (which if you’re not in the UK is probably not going to mean anything to you) is the Project Target tool. You can set a target for your entire project – currently 150,000 words – and you can also set a target for your session. So I have this little square window permanently on top and it’s counting my words as I go along with a progress bar filling up as I’m typing away. And as I get closer and closer to my session target the progress bar gradually changes from red to green. I find it very encouraging and I think it’s helping me want to write more. So this is one part of Scrivener that’s definitely an improvement over writing in Word.
I haven’t entirely got the formatting quite the way I want it though. But it’s something I can live with whilst I’m working on the first draft.
